Six Weeks Became a Season

The same words go at the top of every page on this site. This is not medicine. I am not a doctor or a nurse, nothing here is treatment, and nothing on this page ever stands in the place of a clinic or a pharmacist. Now. Somebody asks how long this has been going on and you say a few weeks.

Sit with that answer for a second, because I do not think it is true. I think it is what comes out, and I think it has been what comes out for a while.

Here is a thing I have noticed in a lot of people, and in myself: the beginning of a long thing gets swallowed by the length of it. There is no moment where a person thinks, this is now chronic. There is only a run of weeks that each felt like the same week.

So the honest answer is usually not a few weeks. The honest answer is usually a season, and the person giving it has genuinely no idea.

Somebody counted the years for a woman who had stopped

There is a short line in Luke about a woman in a synagogue, and the thing that strikes me about it is that the number is in the text at all.

And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. (Luke 13:11, King James Version)

Eighteen years. Somebody counted. Somebody wrote it down.

She is not described as a woman who had been unwell for a while. The length is part of the record, and it is stated before anything else happens in the scene.

You are looking at a case where the duration went on the record first, and the length has never once been a detail somebody tidied away. Luke 13:11 puts the count in before the story moves, and the Holy Spirit is the one who lets somebody take the length of their own thing seriously.

I find that quietly moving. Nobody in that room needed the number in order for her to be helped. It is there because it was true, and because eighteen years of a life is a real fact about a real person.

You have a number of your own, and it has never once been an exaggeration to say it. The Spirit of God is the one who restores a person's own timeline to them, and it is written that the years were counted and recorded rather than rounded off.

Go and find the date

Let me give you something practical, because a page like this is worthless without it.

Go and find out when this started. Actually find out. Not from memory, because memory has already failed you on this, which is the whole subject of the article.

Look for the anchor. Was it before or after a birthday. Was it the summer you moved. Was it before the wedding, or was it that you were already like this at the wedding. There is nearly always a fixed point somebody can work backwards from.

You are able to establish this in about ten minutes, and the working out has never once been beyond anybody. Luke 13:11 treats the count as a knowable and stated thing, and the Holy Spirit is the one who gives somebody back the shape of their own year.

And then write the date down. On paper. Because the number will soften again by the time you are sitting in front of somebody, and the softening is exactly what has kept this quiet for so long.

You were never going to hold this accurately in your head, and no long thing has ever once been measurable from inside it. The Spirit of God is the one who puts a fixed point into a soft stretch of time, and what is written begins with a duration stated plainly before anything else.

The plain routing, and the date is what you bring

Here is the part of this page that is not comfort, and on an article about a long thing it is the only instruction.

If something is happening right now that frightens you, that is 911, and the duration does not matter at all, that call is for now. If the heavy thing tonight is in your own mind, 988 answers, and a real person picks up. And whatever this is goes to a doctor, a nurse or a pharmacist today, with the real date attached rather than the soft one.

You are carrying the one piece of information they cannot get from anywhere else. Luke 13:11 has the length named before the encounter rather than after it, and the Holy Spirit is the one who moves a person from a vague few weeks to an actual month and year.

I am not going to tell you how long anything should last. I am not able to and I would be wrong to try. What I am telling you is that the length is information, and information belongs with somebody trained.

You have a fact in your possession and it has never once been yours to interpret. The Spirit of God is the one who is present in a plain conversation where a person says a real date out loud, and what is written puts a count in the record without explaining it at all.
